COVID-19 has left most of us attending work meetings virtually. Appearing put-together when you work from home is a challenging undertaking, considering you sleep in a little longer and juggling between taking care of your kids and cooking meals for your family.
The current global pandemic has changed the nature of our work environment and how companies – big or small – manage their manpower. With the increasing acceptance of virtual meetings, the line is blurred between work and life, turning homes into makeshift offices.
Other than making sure that you look the part, you need to also make sure that your background does not give people a peek into your private life. It can be more stressful to work from home than working on-site.
To make matter worse, we know how unforgiving a laptop camera can be. Unless you look like Angelina Jolie, you can be sure that your camera will always show the worst part of you.
With the help of some skincare experts, we put together how to get your face ready for your next Zoom call with your co-workers. We’re not saying that these will guarantee that you will look like a million dollars, but these tips should make you look better than before.
Remove excess oil from your face just before the call
Doesn’t matter if you are a man or woman, use an oil blotter or apply some powder on your face just before your call. Oil blotters and powder absorb the grease and sweat, both of which will give an intense shine on camera. Unless you have flawless complexion, the shine on your face will accentuate every scar or blemish.
Start a proper skincare regime
Now that you have no more excuse for not having enough time, it is a good opportunity to put in place a good skincare regime that you always wanted.
First and foremost, choose a suitable cleanser for your skin. For most people, you would want something that can provide a deep cleansing without stripping the essential oils from your skin. Our preferred cleanser is the Serenity Gentle Facial Cleanser. Made of skin-calming botanicals such as yarrow, cucumber and chamomile, this gentle cleanser gently removes the debris on the skin surface without stripping away the essential lipids.
Toner is still very much a hit-and-miss for many people. Some people feel that it doesn’t help their skin, but others feel that it is an important part of the regime. The truth is, a toner prepares the skin to absorb the serum and moisturizer which you may apply afterwards. Opt for a calming toner that soothes the skin while restoring hydration at the same time.
For a glowing skin, choose a serum that contains strong anti-oxidants such as Vitamin C and Ferulic Acid. In particular, combining Vitamin C, B, E and Ferulic Acid have shown to have synergistic effect to brighten the skin and defy signs of ageing.
Never forget to moisturize your skin. A tinted or mattifying moisturizer works best to achieve the matt complexion. If you don’t have one, try PerfectGlow Skin Illumination Crème from Radium Skin. It contains large concentrations of active ingredients such as ReviWhite, Arbutin, and Kojic Acid to reduce dark pigment deposits and prevent your skin from becoming dull.
Apply some concealer for dark pigments and blemishes
With the lockdown extended for another 4 weeks, it may be difficult for you to go for your monthly laser treatments for pigmentation. In the meantime, hide your pigments and blemishes with a concealer to match the surrounding skin tone.
Tie up your hair
Don’t forget that your hair is also a very important part of your image because it frames your face and styling your hair before your meeting can make you look more presentable.
For a quick and dirty way to prep your hair, wear a hairband or tie a ponytail to pull everything to the back. Remember, you just need your front and sides to look neat. No one really cares about what goes on at the back.
Just focus on the 180-degree view i.e. front and the sides. Use clips or any accessories you can find to move the mess to the back – temporarily.
Apply some color to your skin
To give your face a little more dimension, dab some lipstick on your eyebrows, eyes, lips, and cheeks. Opt for natural colours such as rose pink or lemonade pink. Dab a few dots on your cheeks, eyelids, and lips and blend in with your fingers for a quick and natural glow.
Finally, remember to turn off any filter that you may have set on your computer. You don’t want to end up becoming a potato with all the time and effort you invested to look your best for your co-workers!
