Is the answer to your skincare woes hiding in your garden? Plants and flowers have been used for beauty and medicinal treatments for centuries. In fact, it is becoming increasingly popular to use plant extracts as the main ingredients in skin care products. Sometimes, it is good to go back to basics because nature holds the secret to beautiful skin.
Radium Skincare is a firm believer in sourcing for natural botanical ingredients to incorporate into our beauty products. This is because plant-derived ingredients are not only gentle yet effective in solving our skincare woes; they also minimise possible skin reactions while repairing and rejuvenating our skin.
Below is a short list of botanical ingredients which have been tried and tested to be beneficial for various skin concerns:
Aloe vera is one of the most common plants used in skin care remedies because it is just so effective in calming the skin. It contains vitamins C and E to ward off free radical damage and protect the skin cells, as well as vitamin A to improve collagen production. Aloe Vera is a mainstay ingredient in most of our skincare ranges, because we find that a lot of our customers have skin sensitivity concerns which can be amplified after treatments. Aloe Vera can be found in our Serenity Range and Balance Range for sensitive skin and hydration in post-procedural care, as well as in our Liberty Range for sensitive acne-prone skin.
A versatile wild herb containing high amounts of the healing agent alpha-bisabolol, chamomile helps to reduce inflammation. It is useful for clearing up acne, rashes and eczema, and evening out skin tone. Chamomile is featured in our Serenity Range for skin sensitivity, in products such as the Calming Facial Toner.
Derived from the seed of the jojoba plant, jojoba oil contains Vitamin E, a well- known antioxidant, and helps balance out sebum and does not clog your pores. You can find jojoba oil in our Night Repair Crème in our Ageless Range, for anti-aging concerns.
Witch hazel has anti-inflammatory properties and may help soothe the skin. It also helps to tighten pores as it is an astringent. It can be found in our Liberty Range for oily acne- prone skin, such as the Clarifying Gel, and Blemish Serum.
At the end of the day, choosing plant-based skincare products is healthier for you overall because you know what is being applied onto your skin. Though it can happen, there is less likelihood of skin sensitivity reactions being evoked with plant -based ingredients, which are usually safe and good for your skin and your health, as opposed to conventional skincare ingredients. Also, when you use natural, plant-based skincare products, you are also protecting the environment in a sustainable way with these plant- based ingredients coming from nature, and returning to nature.
